Over the second half of the last decade Mark E has cemented a reputation as one of the worlds most respected slow house and disco producer/editor/DJs. 'Mark E Works 2005-2009' collects eight of Mark's finest tracks during this period, all characterised by his predilection for sub 115bpm tempos and headily groovesome source material. His edit of Labelle's 'Moon Shadow', now known as 'Sun Shadow' is the ideal case in point, reshaping the disco classic to his own slow-motion scheme, while his 2008 Running Back single 'Slave 1' offers a masterclass in hypnotic house arrangements at a severly reduced tempo. Meanwhile, his awesome edit of Gabor Szabo's 'Keep Smiling' (here as 'Smiling') shows the psychedelic potential of such drastic bpm measurements with gorgeously opiated effect before the heaving shimmer of 'Night Mover' surely gives Theo Parrish a good run for his dollar. By this point you're irretrievably sucked into his groove, so a dapper edit of Birth Control's 'Plastic People' and the grinding boogie of 'RnB Drunkie' should keep your heads firmly down until the lights come on. Fans of the Workshop label, Trusme or the Lindstrom need to check this without fail.
