After a seven year gap, Luke Slater will finally release a new album under his Planetary Assault Systems moniker later this year.
Instead of appearing on his own Mote-Evolver imprint, the album has been snapped up by Berlin techno giants Ostgut Ton, a label which Slater feels a close affinity to. "Ostgut Ton makes excellent use of art and music and that’s what attracted me to the label in the first place, the music and the art," he explains, "and that's very much in line with the way I think and feel." It's not the first time that Slater has worked with Ostgut, however, as the label's Shut Up And Dance! Updated ballet soundtrack featured an ambient contribution from his The 7th Plain project.
His new album, entitled Temporary Suspension, is a totally different beast, focusing on the dark and jacking dancefloor techno that fans of his Planetary Assault Systems work will already be accustomed to. The CD version will feature ten tracks that have been sequenced and segued to ensure total immersion for the listener, whereas vinyl fans will be offered a double-pack of five cuts from the CD, and one exclusive selection. Whilst the material never pushes the tempo boundaries of some of his earlier work, Slater's raw, uncompromising and sometimes brutal tracks seem perfectly at home on Ostgut, more specifically at the Berghain.
