Soma Records will release this year´s edition of their annual compilation series “Soma Compilation 2007” on December 10, 2007.
2007 has been another bumper year for Soma Records, some would say one of the best yet in terms of output with some huge albums, from the re-release of The Black Dog´s classic works, to the fourth studio album from label bosses Slam and an incredibly ambitious Sci.Fi.Lo.Fi mix compilation from Andrew Weatherall.
“Soma Compilation 2007” contains a selection of 2007’s best tracks opening with the club-savvy “A Field” from Vector Lovers´ album Afterglow. Martin Wheeler aka Vector Lovers has had a fantastic year, from producing on Tracy Thorn´s new album to creating “Afterglow”. Not content with sitting still he has also been keeping busy on remix duties with his take on My Robot Friend´s cover of Blondie´s classic “Rapture” featuring later in this collection.
Techno pioneers The Black Dog this year signed to Soma Records, bringing with them a wealth of experience and an encyclopaedia of back catalogue. “Cost II” is one of their most legendary tracks and was originally released in 1993, 14 years later the track is resurrected fully remastered for both new and nostalgic ears.
Slam delivered their fourth studio album “Human Response” in June and have so far brought some massive 12” releases with it. Here they offer up two of the best tracks from the album, the monstous summer anthem “Azure” and the gostly “No One Left To Follow” featuring My Robot Friend on vocals.
Let´s GO Outside has been another of this year´s new signing to the label, signing to Soma from the experimental offshoot label Pnuma. Repeat Repeat´s wonky remix of “I´ll Lick Your Spine” is a slutty little number featuring Christina Broussard on vocals. Expect a re-release of the single dropping on Soma in early 2008 with new remixes by minimal man of the moment Massy DL and label-mate Vector Lovers. Also featuring here from the Pnuma camp is the Unknown Wanderer with his minimal electroid andro-rhythmical beast “Don´t Start Just Finish It”, featuring a masterful touch-up from Alex Smoke.
Silicone Soul have had a fairly low-key 2007, choosing to develop their Darkroom Dubs label and prepare for the release of the Spiral´s debut album on DRD. “3am” which featured early on in the year on their cracking “Bad machines” 12” is featured here. Meanwhile Lars Sandberg returned with his first solo release in 3 years under the Funk D´Void moniker. “Lovin” is an inspired summery groove soaked in classic house. Expect a lot more from Funk in 2008 with the next in the Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi mix series and a brand new album on the horizon.
Lee Van Dowski has had another busy year with plenty of big releases, 2 of which feature here. Firstly is the incredible “The Strike Pandemonium”. Beginning as a cool slice of minimal the track builds and develops into a progressive techno workout. His second track, “Asem”, finished off this staggering compilation and is a deep and dark trippy collaboration with fellow Genevan producer Tsack.
